One of the great drawbacks on steel silos are that they are unfortunately notorious for not being able to fumigate effectively with gaseous fumigants like phostoxin/phosphine – mainly because steel silos aren’t completely airtight – even with additional sealant packages that are included in most fumigation upgrade packages – resulting in either higher dosages required to try to make up for the loss of fumigant during the recycling process, or otherwise ineffective fumigation, due to lower concentration of the fumigant in the silo. It should be noted that fumigating with these gaseous methods are still much more effective in steel silos, than in flat storage, or for grain in bags or bunkers.
ABC Hansen recommends rather applying a spray on – contact residual insecticide, such as K-Obial EC 25, Merkaptothion Super, Gravista, Diacon IGR Plus, Centynal Synergized and Weevilspray Upperclass – amongst others – that are approved for on grain spraying applications – as the residual contact insecticides ensure even distribution of insecticide throughout the grain stored in the silo, and the same insecticide and applicator can be used to spray the silos, aeration channels and perimeters of the storage complex – to ensure that any initial infestations are cleared before storage of grain commences.
The G3 PLC Chemical dosing pump is the ideal applicator for the application of spray on insecticides.
Features;
Traceability;
With higher and higher regulatory pressure coming up, traceability and the ability to repost on insecticide treatment is becoming more and more important, as well as for control by the storage operators, to ensure that the correct dosages have been applied and that the dosages have been applied consistently on all grain taken in. The G3 Dosing pump will report the following via an automated email:
